Estalished in 2009 by the Trio à Cordes Shaw, professional musicians originally from London, the 3e Festival International de Musique de Chambre en Charente is based in Chalais in the Sud-Charente.
Viola-player Julian Shaw moved to France three years ago after a lifetime giving concerts in ’les grandes villes’ all over the world. Violinist daughter, Nathalie www.nathalieshaw.com and cellist son, Jacob www.jacobshaw.de now spend their time touring, recording and giving solo concerts throughout Europe and the USA and can be heard regularly on French, German and Scandinavian radio. Each year, the Trio invites colleagues from around the world to bring international level concerts to the Charente, playing some of the masterworks of the chamber music repertoire.
In 2010, over 1,000 people came to be wowed by afternoons of extraordinary music-making and dégustations of fine wines and local food ; 2011 sees the addition of an exposition d’art and the involvement of France Musique. Musical highlights include EMI award-winning pianist José Gallardo in Schubert’s Trout Quintet, an opening afternoon of string sextets, where the Trio are joined by concert masters from Denmark, France & Poland and the celebrated Concert de Gala & champagne reception with the virtuoso Ensemble International des Quatre Siècles in the fairytale Château de Labaurie.
An exciting arts festival not to be missed. 50 free tickets to give away.
